Derailer Bicycle Collective is a free, volunteer-run community bike shop started in Denver in 2001. AS OF DECEMBER 14, 2012, THE DERAILER BICYCLE COLLECTIVE IS NO LONGER OPEN OR OPERATING. In early 2013, we will be transferring our resources to new programs in the Denver-area. Please watch our home page for information about the progress and ways you can get involved. Thank you.
We offer bikes, parts, the use of tools, and one-on-one maintanance training. We teach comprehensive bike know-how: everything from fixing a flat to building a wheel. You don't just drop your bike off while we fix it; we work with you and if needed, teach you how to fix whatever is wrong with your bike. For more specific information about our programs, visit the Hours and Programs page.

Derailer has helped people of all ages repair thousands of bicycles with no more than the use of donated tools, salvaged parts and generous gifts of time and patience. Since 2001, over 2,000 bikes returned to the streets of Denver through the Build-A-Bike program. Over 12,000 bikes were repaired by their riders and the help of volunteer mechanics in the Fix-A-Bike program. This is with an "annual budget" of less than $6,000.
Every year since its inception, the number
of people seeking a bike or bike repair at Derailer has grown dramatically. In
2004, 100 people participated in a fledgling Build-A-Bike Program. In 2009,
just over 900 people built bikes at Derailer. Since 2007, Derailer has remained so busy that all the bike stands in the
shop are occupied even in our slowest, snowiest winter months.
