Other Places to Get A Bike in Denver

The Derailer Bicycle Collective hopes to be a space for anyone and everyone to build a bicycle or repair their own. However, due to our limited space, tools, bicycles, volunteers, and shop hours, we choose to give priority to people in this neighborhood who have few or no other resources. Those who have the ability to buy a used bike, can find parts or bikes online, can use a friend or relative's bike tools, have connections at commercial bike shops, have multiple bicycles, or have alternative types of transportation should know that many of the people who come to Derailer do not have these options. It is because of this type of inequality that Derailer chooses to do what we do.
No one will ever be turned away from Derailer, we just ask that people be aware of their options, the space they use in the shop, and the limits to this project's time and resources.
We acknowledge the complexity of this issue and that commercial bike shops are pretty unaffordable for most everybody. We welcome your thoughts, criticisms and ideas.
And, because Derailer is better equipped to help people who already have a bike to start with (even if it's busted) we've tried to compile a list of resources around Denver for cheaper, friendlier alternatives to large, commercial bike shops:

  • www.craigslist.com (buy/trade for used bikes from locals)
  • www.ebay.com (lots of bikes to bid on, especially used bikes posted in Denver…)
